Both today and yesterday there were slalom ski races over in Heavenly Valley, necessitating the cordoning off of Snake Gully & Black Snake both days, and Milky Way today as well (the finals today used a longer run.) This resulted in a lot more traffic through Slalom Gully with moguls forming a great deal quicker due to the soft slushy snow on the surface (it was another sunny day today - I didn't spot any clouds at all for the whole day.) Needless to say, crowds + slush + moguls =/= fun for me but a lot of work to ride around, through and over/around respectively.
So, after lunch, rather than dealing with all that unpleasantness, I had some fun on the boardercross course that's still around from the competition that was held a week and a half ago. The soft snow made it easier to control my speed over the rollers (basically a hill that you can "roll over" or get air off if you wish) and off the the couple of small kickers (a jump designed to "kick" you up into the air) along the course as well as giving my courage a helping hand with the knowledge that failing to land any jumps shouldn't hurt much. The result was a fun, if tiring afternoon. Never really got the landing right off the main kicker - managed to stay upright twice out of about 8-10 attempts I think, and had one almost-landing that turned into a face plant (no inuries though). The second, impromptu kicker was easier, as was getting air from the rollers, and I managed to land all of them with no trouble. No fancy tricks as yet - just working on leaving the snow and coming back down to it without falling over, "baby steps" as they say ;)
A little bit sunburnt, with a red nose and racoon features, but I look at it as a visible souvenir of the good time I'm having.
